HAMBLEDEN moved up to second place in the Wycombe and District League’s Premier Division on Saturday after beating visitors Prestwood Reserves 4-3 at the Dene.
The game opened with a scrappy start with both teams struggling to settle before the hosts took the lead after five minutes when Holloran latched on to a poor piece of defending, robbing the centre back and slotting past the keeper who lost his footing.
Five minutes later Logan finished from close range after good build-up play to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.
Prestwood got back into the game after the Stags back three left too much space for the visiting forward to slot in freely at the back post. Just before half-time it was 2-2 after a Prestwood forward netted after a challenge on the home goalkeeper.
In the second half Hambleden changed formation and made several substitutions as they got on top. A good ball from Ellis was sliced into his own net from 12 yards by a Prestwood player to give the hosts the lead.
Prestwood won a free kick on the near touchline which was pumped into the box where the stand-in Hambleden keeper could only parry it into his own goal to leave the scores level.
With 10 minutes remaining Hambleden took the lead with a good team goal finished by top scorer Logan from six yards. Just before the final whistle Hambleden had the ball in the net again but the effort was ruled out by the referee.
