Appeal for volunteers

HENLEY Town Football Club is appealing for volunteers to help out on match days and with administration.

HENLEY Town Football Club is appealing for volunteers to help out on match days and with administration.

The club, which is the oldest in Oxforshire having been founded in 1871, is run entirely by volunteers.

A spokesman said: “The club exists on sponsorship from local companies, donations and fund-raising by members.

“Non-league football doesn’t attract large crowds but whatever the attendance the cost of running the club remains the same.

“Apart from the cost of things like rates and electricity to run the clubhouse, it costs more than £250 to put on a Hellenic League fixture.

“The club has plenty of work for volunteers, such as administration jobs like confirming fixtures with the opposing team and match officials, team sheets, helping on match days, serving at the bar, helping prepare the pitch, cutting the grass and many others.’
