Hotspurs caught out by Lions’ late charge

AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U12s went down to a 2-0 defeat at Jubilee Park on Saturday in their East

AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U12s went down to a 2-0 defeat at Jubilee Park on Saturday in their East Berks League clash with HEARTS OF TEDDLOTHIAN LIONS U12s.

Henley started well with slick passing and some good through balls from the midfield but against a strong wind, it was difficult to get enough power behind their shots at goal.

At the other end Sami Morgan put in a good display at left back while goalkeeper Joel Trinder was his usual reliable self, pulling off several good saves as the first half remained goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half the Lions took the lead following a corner routine.

The Hotspurs, helped on by their man-of-the-match Monty Heath, piled on the pressure but were thwarted by the in-form Lions goalkeeper.

With the Hotspurs pressing for an equaliser the Lions broke away against the run of play to add their second and secure all three points two minutes from time.

The results leaves AFC Henley Hotspurs seventh in Division 6.
