LAST Saturday proved to be another washout for almost half of the league as 12 of the 26 scheduled matches to take place fell foul of the continued wet conditions.

In Division 2, basement side SONNING narrowly went down 3-2 at home to BARKHAM ATHLETIC in a match that saw Daniel Riches score both goals for the hosts.

Elsewhere in the division GORING UNITED went down 4-1 away to league leaders ELDON CELTIC in a match that saw Andrew Symonds was on target for the visitors.

Meanwhile WARGRAVE slumped to a 4-0 defeat away to MARLOW UNITED RESERVES.

A weakened GORING UNITED RESERVES side, missing several key players, went down to a heavy 6-0 defeat at home to HURST A in their Division 5 match played out in windy conditions.

Despite the hosts having the better of the first 20 minutes it was Hurst who broke the deadlock via a quick break catching the Goring defence off guard to score against the run of play.

The wind and tricky conditions made it hard for either team to play good football on the deck but some good runs down the wings from George O’Brien and Ryan Harhhy won Goring a number of free kicks in good positions, which they were unable to convert despite some good deliveries from Joe Matthews.

Hurst then went on to score three further goals to go into the interval 4-0 up after taking advantage of a number of defensive mistakes in the Goring United Reserves defence as well scoring a goal from a long distance strike.

Goring made a good start to the second half having the wind in their advantage with Hurst finding it difficult to get out of their half in the first 20 minutes.

As the half went on Goring, whose strikers squandered several chances to narrow the scoreline, tired and Hurst added two more goals to their tally to make it 6-0 with substitute Asher Price completing his hat-trick for the visitors.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Goring United Reserves travel to third placed The Hop Leaf while in Division 2 Goring United entertain Sonning.
