AFC HENLEY U13s returned victorious from their Easter tour of twin town Leichlingen, winning the tournament for only the second time in the past 20 years of attending the event.
The team flew to Düsseldorf early on Good Friday morning donning new tracksuits, sponsored by Ventrolla, where they stayed with local families in Leichlingen for the weekend.
On Good Friday AFC Henley and SC Leichlingen contested the Gossen trophy in the annual fixture played between the two towns. A mixed Henley side beat the home team 4-2 with two goals coming from Leo Browne and one apiece from Leo Allen and Archie Barker.
The following day two Henley sides were entered into an eight-team tournament including SC Leichlingen, DITIB Leverkusen, DSV 04 Düsseldorf, SSV Dhunn and SC Schlebusch. Both Henley sides qualified from their respective groups and met in a keenly contested semi-final with Henley 1sts edging out Henley 2nds in the final stages of the game.
Henley 1sts completed their unbeaten march to the title by beating SSC Dhunn 2-0 in the final with two goals from player-of-the-tournament Barker.
In a clean sweep of awards to the touring side Sonny Martin also won the golden boot as top scorer in the competition.
