LAST Saturday should have been the last date for matches in the Uhlsport Hellenic League, but the weather is determined to have the last word in this wet winter, and Chinnor’s pitch was waterlogged, preventing their match against Henley Town in Division 1 East from going ahead, writes John Bailey.
The earlier postponement of Henley’s match away to Bicester had caused disappointment in the Foxhunters’ camp as the original list had Bicester and Penn and Tylers Green, the top two teams, playing their last games simultaneously. Ironically, Bicester’s match at the weekend also had to be postponed, leaving Bicester a further game behind while Penn tied up the championship.
The need to reschedule a number of matches so late in the season has led to a good deal of confusion. Henley were asked to make another attempt to travel to Chinnor on Wednesday evening just past. This was the original date for the Reading Senior Cup tie against Bracknell Town, which has now been rearranged for tomorrow (Saturday) at the Invesco Perpetual Triangle, kick-off 3pm.
A 5-1 victory at the weekend over Milton United meant that Bracknell had finished 14th of the 20 Premier Division teams.
There is still a full programme for the Sunday team, who have two league fixtures this week. On Sunday, they travel to AFC Burghfield, kick-off 10.30am, before entertaining FC Woodley on Thursday, kicking off at 7.45pm, with the floodlights being used.
