Late strike earns Red Kites place in semi-final

HENLEY TOWN made it through to the semi-final of the Reading Senior Cup last Saturday

HENLEY TOWN made it through to the semi-final of the Reading Senior Cup last Saturday thanks to a last minute win against Hellenic Premier League outfit Bracknell Town at The Triangle.

Richard Bennett netted the decisive goal two minutes into added on time to decide the match.

The Henley defence of Andrew Nunn, Jonathan Malone, Jordan Goddard, Warren Baxter and Sam Cripps were tested all day from the aerial prowess that Bracknell have in their side but the home defence stood strong all game.

The game looked to be going into extra time until Grant Kemp held off a challenge in midfield and managed to get a lay-off to the advancing Asa Povey who lifted the ball over the visitors’ defence to Bennett who burst clear and beat the keeper. Bennett’s shot was almost cleared on the line by the scrambling Bracknell defender Davies who could only watch his attempted clearance hit the roof of the net when it had already crossed the line.

Henley will now face Westwood Wanderers in the semi-final with the winners progressing to the final at Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium.

Henley Town: Nunn, Malone, Goddard, Baxter, Cripps, Thomas (Tindell, 78 mins), Kemp, Povey, Thomson-Wheeler, Moore, Bennett
