Replaced Gate on the Chiltern Way

Replaced Gate on the Chiltern Way

Baker’s way: a gate has replaced a stile on the Chiltern Way in Gallowstree Common. Reading Rambling Club paid for it to be installed in memory of John Baker, from Wokingham, who was a member of the group for more than 20 years. The gate, which is on Reades Lane, was supplied by the Chiltern Society and has a plaque (inset) with Mr Baker’s name on. About 35 members of the club walked up to 11 miles to attend the dedication of the gate. Spokeswoman Linda Gray said: “John was a lovely, inclusive guy and walking was one of his passions. His speciality was the figure of eight walk, starting, ending and stopping for lunch at the same point — often, conveniently, a pub!”
