HENLEY Golf Club’s course record survived as two pros got within one shot of equalling it at Sunday’s annual pro-am competition.
Adam Wootton of the Oxford Golf Centre and James Ablett of the Lee-on-Solent Golf Club both recorded 63s to share the first prize which was three shots better than third placed Billy Hemstock. Martin Woodbridge of Bearwood Lakes Golf Club was fourth with a score of 67 in a field of 41 professionals, 13 of which were able to better or equal par for the course.
The winning team were the foursome of Paul Masterman, Dave Sexon, Kenny Kent and professional Woodbridge with a score of 17 under to pip the team of Kevin McCourt, Malcolm Plews, Alistair Crawford and professional Ablett on countback.
Club chairman Dave Sexon had a week to remember when, apart from winning the pro-am he was successful in the Seniors Madger competition held on the previous Monday. A score of 42 Stableford points was good enough to take the trophy, on countback from runner-up Martin Goodier.
