HENLEY Golf Club held the annual running of the Charles Luker Cup at the weekend, a foursomes competition which is also a qualifier for the principal pairs knockout competition which runs through the winter.

Coming out on top were past captains Chris Messenger and Mike Keiller with a score of 39 points. Rob Edwards and Peter Ferretti also recorded 39 points but missed out on the countback rule.

Jason Livy and his partner Ian Thomas scored 38 points to take third spot.

The ladies’ section held a qualifying Stableford in conjunction with the David Stevens Trophy last week which saw Lucy Terris successful in Division 1 with a score of 37 points, which was a point better than Helga Keay, Morag Broom and Alyson Warren. Gill Mitchell claimed Division 2 and the trophy with a great score of 39 points which was a single point better than Sandie Howell. Christine Valentine was third with 36 points.

Division 3 was won by Hiver Pruden with a score of 36 points which was a point better than Maria Clift and Jane Packham whilst Mary Wingrove took Division 4 on countback from Gilly Hudson with 36 points. Sue Jennings and Elaine Dudeney were a point further back.

Ali Mitchell won Division 5 with 38 points which was four points better than runner-up Alyson McGough.

Henley junior girl Mairi Weir made up the county’s winning team at the finals of the Midland South Junior Triangular match event. Oxfordshire beat Berkshire and Buckinghamshire earlier in the year to qualify for the finals, and the three players resoundingly won their matches against Herefordshire and Worcestershire earlier this month at Moseley Golf Club.
