NEW Henley Golf Club ladies’ captain Clare Dodds drove in her year of captaincy on Tuesday with a hit which just fringed with the woods on the left-hand side of the first fairway.
Before the inauguration ceremony the club held a Texas scramble competition which was won by the trio of Fay Ahara, Morag Broom and Elizabeth Plews with a net score of 67.5.
Runners-up were the team consisting of Sharon Chamberlain, Maria Clift and Christine Valentine with a score of 67.8 which was 0.2 point better than the trio of Sarah Hillas, Jacquie McCourt and Lucy Terris.
The incoming ladies’ captain Dodds, who was playing with the outgoing captain Sally Woolven and vice-captain Ann Thomas, came fourth with a score of 68.4.
Henley-based Dodds, the present ladies’ champion, joined the club in 2000 and was supported at the drive-in by her husband Richard who is an ex-Great Britain hockey team captain and also a member of the golf club.
