Scratch golfer hits seven birdies to win Cup
NEW Henley Golf Club member Martyn Metcalfe ran out winner in last weekend’s Wetton Cup.

The scratch golfer who joined from Bird Hills Golf Club last year recorded a gross 66 which included seven birdies, to claim the trophy by one shot from Andrew Carmichael. Club captain Tom Campbell recorded a net 68 to take third spot on countback from David Jennings and Jon McCarthy.

Steve Hobbs and 2010 club captain Mike Keiller were the only other players in the field of 86 to better their handicaps with net 69s.

The ladies’ section held their Daily Mail Foursomes competition and this resulted in a win for ladies’ vice-captain Jacqui McCourt and her partner Sally Woolven with 38 points. Past ladies’ captains Jane Atkin and Muriel Quinsac paired together to record 35 points to take the runner-up spot.

The inaugural Hennerton Senior Open took place on Friday of last week with 48 players taking part, more than half of which were visiting golfers from various clubs around the county.
