Wilson lifts silverware

HENLEY Golf Club held the annual running of the SSAFA Stableford competition last weekend with the aim of raising money for dependants of the armed forces.

Five handicapper Alan Wilson recorded 38 points which included three birdies on the back nine to claim the trophy. Len Leigh was the runner up with a score of 37 which was a point better than Paul Thomalla and Andy Fairhall.

The ladies section held a three-ball alliance which resulted in a win for the trio of Jane Atkin, Kathy Hooper and Delia Norris with a score of 87 Stableford points which was a point better than the team of Maria Clift, Sheila Needham and Margaret Grainger.

Meanwhile the team of Callum Peart, Duncan Peart, Andrew Robertson and Seamus Smith narrowly won the Guy Fawkes four-player scramble at Caversham Heath last weekend.

Playing off one-tenth handicap allowance, the four recorded 57.8, just 0.1 ahead of runners-up Mathew Brakspeare, Javier Dieguez, Matthew Evans and Sheila Evans on 57.9. Third were Keith Gilmour, Gareth Johns, Paul Perry, and Colin Stoute on 58.2.

The ladies’ Guy Fawkes Stableford was won by Sarla Read with 37 points. Second was Lynne Rumbold, on countback from Susie Mathewson, both with 34 points.
