Piper wins top prize

MERVYN PIPER won the first individual men’s trophy of the year at Henley Golf Club last weekend.

MERVYN PIPER won the first individual men’s trophy of the year at Henley Golf Club last weekend.

Piper won the Luker Putter competition with a net score of 66 and at the same time earned a two-shot handicap reduction.

Mike Cawthra was runner-up with a score of net 67 on countback from Nigel Woolven and Mark Farina.

Tim Arnold and Guy Phillips were close behind with net 68s whilst Marcus Lovelock, Ian Thomas, Mike Walker and Richard Sessions all managed to beat their handicaps with net 69s.

Christine Valentine won the ladies’ section’s Jubilee Cup competition which was held in conjunction with their monthly medal.

Jocelyn Brown won Division 1 with a net 70 which was two shots better than Muriel Quinsac. Helga Keay was third with a net 74.

Valentine won Division 2 and the cup with a net 70 which was four shots better than runner-up Ruth Jolly. Division 3 was won by Jacqui McCourt with a net 76 on countback from Val Foster whilst Jane Packham won Division 4 with a net 72. Cindy Weight was runner-up in this division with a net 73 which was a shot better than Anne Davis.
