HOSTS Goring and Streatley triumphed in this year’s Thames Valley Junior Golf League Golfer of the Year tournament held last Friday.

Four junior golfers from each league club — Calcot Park, Castle Royle, East Berks, Goring and Streatley, Henley, Maidenhead, Reading and Sonning — competed for individual and team prizes.

The Goring and Streatley team of Alec Curtis (5), Matt McCleery (10), Adam Parkes (11) and Max Stradling (12) won the team shield by three shots from the second placed Henley team of Jack Fairhall (5), Alex Harris-White (9), Toby Hancock (11) and Jack Waiton (14). The Scratch Cup winner was Sam Brass from Castle Royle, who shot a level par 71. Second place went to George Gardner, also from Castle Royle, who shot a 72. Jack Fairhall of Henley came third with a 73.

The Handicap Cup winner was Max Stradling from Goring and Streatley, who won on countback from team mate Matt McCleery. Both carded net 65s. Third place was won by Henley golfer Toby Hancock, who carded a net 67.

Alex Harris White’s drive of approximately 270 yards on the uphill second hole won the longest drive award to complete a successful day for the two local clubs.
