Captains tee off

THE Springs Golf Club held their Founders Cup competition on Saturday with 103 members taking part.

THE Springs Golf Club held their Founders Cup competition on Saturday with 103 members taking part.

The new captains for this year – Anne Silvester for the ladies, John Edwards for the men and James Forsyth for the junior – held their inaugural drives down the fairway before a two–ball Stableford competition took place. This was won by Sean and Callum Cooke with 74 points. In second place was Sue Applebey and Tim Streatfield with 72, third was Leon Hutt and Paul West on countback with 70 points from Pamela and Colin Allen.

Nearest the pin for the ladies was Jacky King while Bob Barker took the prize for the men. Peter Breton won nearest the pin in two on the 17th hole.

The winners of guessing the distance of the captains’ drives were Pete Ferry and Ian Hamilton–Smith.

The captains’ chosen charity for this year is the Footsteps Foundation based in Dorchester, which helps children who are disabled or have neurological disorders.
