THE first individual men’s trophy of the season took place at Henley Golf Club last week with the annual running of the Luker Putter.
Coming out on top was Henley stalwart Ron Jacobs with a net score of 67 to claim top spot from Guy North on the countback rule. Chris Messenger recorded a net 68 to claim third spot, again on countback from Mike Keiller.
The countback rule decided fifth and sixth places with Hugh Williams just beating Paul Bradford with net 69s whilst Max Gosby, Tony Hayden-Cadd and Richard Fenn were only nine of 79 starters to better or equal their handicap.
The first pairs competition, the Gray Cup which is a bogey format was also played for and this proved a success for Chris Maxted and Dave Williams who recorded a score of seven up against the course which was a hole better than runners-up Alan Freke and Kenny Kent. Jim McLaren and Adam Taylor were third with a score of four up.
The ladies’ section held their monthly Stableford last week where past captain Caroline Archibald won Division 1 with 35 points. Jane Atkin was runner-up with 33 points which was a point better than Alyson Warren.
Division 2 was claimed by Ngairey Palin with a score of 34 points which was two better than runner-up Sandie Howell. Harriet Wynn-Jones was third with 31.
Jane Packham had the day’s best score of 40 points to take Division 3 which was two better than Gill Mitchell whilst Nikki Donohue took Division 4 with 39 points which was four better than runner-up Doreen Longworth.
