Host ladies among the invitation day honours

CLUB captain Daniel Dover led by example to win the nine-hole Stableford competition at Caversham Heath

CLUB captain Daniel Dover led by example to win the nine-hole Stableford competition at Caversham Heath last Friday.

Dover scored 41 points to take top spot. Runner-up was Joyce Collins with 40 points and third was Mike Capaldi on countback from Geoff Parlour, both with 37 points.

The only two of the competition was recorded by Mike Capaldi on the eighth hole.

Matt Robertson is the new junior club champion. Robertson led after a first round of 84, but it was a superb second round of 79 for a combined total of 163 that took him clear of his rivals.

Runner-up was James Millard who had been lying third after the first round with a score of 86 and recorded a second round of 82 to finish with a combined 168.



Callum Peart, who had been lying second after a first round of 85, faded with a second round 88 for a combined 173 to take third place. Robertson also recorded the only two of the competition on the eighth hole.

Two home club members were successful in the ladies’ invitation day â?? a pink ball format competition â?? hosted by ladies’ captain Jane Weller.

Angie Adamson and Daphne Barker teamed up with guests Di Harper of The Springs and Sarah Davidson of Sonning to win with a score of 155 points. Davidson was in imperious form, scoring 42 points.

Best score from a Caversham member was 33 points by Caroline Dover. The best visitor prize went to Terry Jeggins with 27 points.

Caversham ladies were also represented in the Weston Turville team open.

Lynne Rumbold, Susie Matheson, Jeanette Taylor and Fiona Ives finished third out of 24 teams with 109 points, just one behind the second place team.

The seniors beat Wokefield Park 5-1 at home on Wednesday of last week in the Two Counties League.

David Brown was crowned seniors gross champion on Monday.

Brown scored 81 to beat Stephen Plyler with 83. Third was Tony Gonzalez with 86.

Net champion is Lynne Rumbold with ntt 74. Runner-up was Caroline Dover on countback from Gonzalez, both with net 75.
