Steel triumphs to lift nine-hole junior crown

HENLEY Golf Club held a junior open for girls on Sunday.

Seven girls, from different clubs, played in the 18 hole competition and 11 in the nine-hole competition which was played from the 150 yard markers on the par fives and from forward tees on the other holes. The girls came from seven different clubs in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Natalie King from Drayton Park won the 18 hole competition on countback from Ellie Phillips also from Drayton Park, both players scoring 42 points. Margaux Gathy from Sunningdale Ladies and Ellysha Franklin from Henley also played below handicap with 40 and 39 points respectively. Mairi Weir was given a small prize for scoring a birdie.

Henley’s Olivia Steel won the nine-hole competition with 30 points. Allegra Holtom from Studley Wood was second with 28 points and Lauren Hilditch from Henley took third place on countback with 26 points. Grace Boag-Matthews from North Oxford also had 26 points and was closely followed by Lilyarna Franklin with 24 points.
