LAST week was captains’ charity week at Mapledurham Golf Club where captains Hugh Locket and Jo Thomson have been supporting the National Brain Cancer Appeal.

The week started off with the midweek captains’ challenge Stableford. The competition was only decided on the 18th green with Tony Edge, Mike Spensley and Terry Spice scoring two birdies to give them a total of 83 points which tied with Joan Cadge, Margaret Todd and Jan Runacres but gave them first place on countback. Third was John Buckby, Richard Gough and Amrik Sohal with 82. Captains’ day at the weekend produced a close finish in the men’s competition. The podium positions were only decided after a countback for all three places after they all scored 42. Michael Sutton took first place followed by John Scott and Dave Taylor third.

The ladies captain’s day competition was more clear cut with the winner Karen Bridges scoring 41 points ahead of Caroline Kimmins. It required a countback to decide third position with Jessica Kennedy just sneaking it from Elaine Allen with both scoring 38.
