HENLEY Golf Club’s ladies won the Oxfordshire Ladies’ County Golf Association Trophy last week for the first time in the club’s history at Studley Wood Golf Club.

The scratch competition was for teams of players with a handicap of 13 or over playing foursomes.

After beating Frilford Heath in April the Henley ladies were rewarded with a home tie against Huntercombe which they won to book their place in last week’s final which consisted of two semi-final knockout matches in the morning and the grand final in the afternoon. The team of Suzy Smith, Ngairey Palin, Muriel Quinsac, Sandie Howell, Rachel Hall and Gill Mitchell beat holders Tadmarton Golf Club in the first semi-final.

Palin and Howell were replaced in the afternoon by Caroline Archibald and Lyn McAlpine as the team defeated The Cotswold (Chipping Norton) club 2-1 to secure the trophy.

In earlier rounds of the competition the Henley side had consisted of Jenny Stanier, Liz Plews and Christine Valentine.
