Tate has the edge in close medal encounter

THERE was a tight finish to the midweek medal at Caversham Heath with four players

THERE was a tight finish to the midweek medal at Caversham Heath with four players all finishing with the same net score.

Will Tate proved the winner on countback from Stuart Errington, Matt Robertson and John Purnell, all with net 74.

After bogeying the two previous holes, Tate clinched victory with a birdie on the closing par four hole. However, all the other players in contention were left kicking themselves.

Purnell came to the last in prime position, needing only a par to win the competition. However he had a quadruple bogey eight, following a bogey on the 17th.

Errington also had a good chance coming to the last two holes. He too bogeyed the 17th hole and then had a triple bogey on the last.

Matt Robertson was the only player not dropping shots, but he had to be content with third place after parring all the closing five holes.

Division 2 was more clear cut with Stuart Walker winning with net 68. Caroline Dover was runner-up with net 73 and Simon Dicketts took third place on countback from Ralph Lambert, both with net 76.
