DUO John North and Santi Fernandez-Garcia are the new holders of the Franklin Cup â?? a pairs competition where a low handicap senior pairs off with a higher handicap senior at Caversham Heath.
Played off three-quarters handicap, scoring was good with North and Fernandez-Garcia scoring an impressive 41 points, including a two on the eighth hole.
Runners-up were the in-form John Sandall and his partner Keith Taylor, on countback from Kathy North and Colin Parkes, both pairs with 40 points.
Lady captain, Jane Weller enjoyed a good back nine in the Amber Rose Bowl to finish in third place with 33 points.
Daphne Barker didn’t get off to the best of starts, but more than made up for that with a blistering back nine to post 34 points.
However, neither could match the consistent round of Debbie Harris, who played the par fives on the front nine particularly well to record 36 points overall.
Harris was presented with the Amber Rose Bowl by Amber Rose, grand-daughter of event organiser Joyce Collins. Caversham Heath bowed out of the Hillman Trophy at the quarter final stage against Studley Wood. However, the team lost nothing in defeat, with many of the matches going down to the final two holes.
Chris Stacey led his Central sevens team to a resounding 7-0 home win against Waterstock. There were good wins for Dave Stankard, Mick Beaumont, Carl Bache, Gareth Ford, Barry Reynolds, Chris Stacey and Colin Stoute.
Captain Danny Dover and his team put up a good show in a friendly match away to Studley Wood.
Dover and partner Clive Adamson got the team off to a flying start, winning three and two. Gary King and Mathew Brakspear also combined well in the third match to win by the same scoreline. However, home advantage told in the remaining games, so overall the team had to settle for a 3-2 defeat.
Caversham Heath’s Anne Smith helped Berkshire second team to the Midlands South League title, for what most believe to be the first time in their history.
