New ladies captain helps team to success

THE new Henley Golf Club ladies’ captain Sally Woolven “drove in” into her year of captaincy

THE new Henley Golf Club ladies’ captain Sally Woolven “drove in” into her year of captaincy last week.

Woolven’s drive down the middle of the fairway won a prize for Katie O’Gorman who was the nearest in guessing the final resting place of the ball.

Before the event Woolven was successful in the three ball better ball medal competition arranged by the club to precede the drive-in. Playing with the outgoing ladies’ captain Jacqui McCourt and the new ladies’ vice-captain Clare Dodds the team recorded a net score of 68.4 to win the competition which was more than four shots better than the runners-up, the team of Maddy Field, Joan Fletcher and Jill Irwin.

The trio of Muriel Quinsac, Rita Sharman-Crawford and Suzy Smith recorded the same score as the runners-up of 72.7 but missed out on countback.
