Health campus plans go on display

NEW plans for the £16million "health campus" at Townlands Hospital have been put on show for residents.

NEW plans for the £16million "health campus" at Townlands Hospital have been put on show for residents.

Developers Amber Solutions for Care held an exhibition in the Maurice Tate Room on Tuesday.

Dozens of residents visited to look at the plans.

The changes include moving parking underground to increase the green space on the site as well as combining the two assisted care accommodation blocks into one.

Site maps and blueprints were on show alongside the original plans for the site and representatives from Amber were on hand to take questions.

Project director Mike Leto said: "We will be going back into planning with these changes which we believe will enhance the scheme.

"The exercise we undertook was to go through it and ask if it works. We wanted to make sure we've got the best scheme - this isn't being built until next year so it needs to be the best scheme we can deliver here. We want it to be a landmark facility."

Architect Nick Baker added: "We are augmenting the plans to give it a campus feel. There are no drastic changes and the feedback so far has been good."

A 64-bed care home is being built on the site alongside the existing hospital, with work expected to start early next year.
