Campaign gathers pace

A CAMPAIGN for the new Townlands Hospital to include the name of Henley’s old War Memorial

A CAMPAIGN for the new Townlands Hospital to include the name of Henley’s old War Memorial Hospital is gathering pace.

A petition asking for the hospital to be renamed the Townlands Memorial Hospital instead of the Townlands Community Hospital has gathered up to 1,000 signatures in a month.

The idea was first put forward by visitors to an exhibition to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War at the Old Fire Station Gallery in 2014.

Woodcote historian Mike Willoughby, who staged the exhibition as part of the Lest We Forget project, said: “I’m extremely pleased. Only four people of those asked have declined to sign the petition.”

The petition is available to sign at the town hall and the Christ Church Centre.
