HENLEY Mayor Julian Brookes was caught out at a town council meeting last week.
Just as the planning committee meeting started, he answered his mobile phone.
He whispered to the caller: “I’m in a meeting, I’ll call you back.”
But then a cry of “I can’t believe this!” came from the public gallery — courtesy of Ken Arlett, a former mayor.
Incidentally, the meeting ended somewhat earlier than expected at 7.45pm to which Councillor Ian Reissmann said: “I was betting on 8pm.”
Committee chairman Simon Smith replied: “I will never let a planning meeting go on that long!”
