A GREAT BRITAIN rower from Henley completed the Engadin Ski Marathon in St Moritz, Switzerland, on Sunday.
Mary Wilson represented Great Britain at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam last August and is currently taking a break from serious rowing competition.
The 22-year-old, who lives at the Fair Mile, Henley, tried cross-country skiing a couple of years ago and following the lead of other European nations by using this discipline as a winter training supplement, decided to test her skills out over the full marathon course, preceded by six days’ intensive training in the Alps.
Hoping to complete the course in the first instance, Wilson, who rows for Wallingford Rowing Club, managed a creditable 394th place out of more than 2,000 women, taking just 3.5 hours. More than 13,000 skiers took part in the 42km event.
On Monday morning Wilson returned to her rowing training as she joined the Wallingford Rowing Club training camp in Temple-sur-Lot, France.
