Newcomer takes over gift shop

A GIFT shop in Henley is to change owners.

Gillian Nahum, who founded Boatique in 2012, is selling the business to focus on her other venture, Henley Sales and Charter, which will continue to operate from offices above the shop in Friday Street.

From April 1 the shop will be run by businesswoman Juliet Campbell, who recently moved to the town.

Ms Nahum said her boat hire business had expanded so much that she could no longer pay enough attention to Boatique.

She has also just opened another office in Pangbourne and launched a new website.

She said: “I no longer had the time to run it properly and wanted to find someone with my vision and enthusiasm for Boatique’s future.

“Juliet has a connection to the river and has just the kind of experience to take the business forward.

“She will go into areas I had considered, like manufacturing or pop-up shops in other towns, but she will be maintaining a presence in the town and expanding the retail offering as it has a lot of loyal supporters.”

Ms Nahum, who will remain a minority shareholder in Boatique, had intended to close the shop this year after experiencing a 20 per cent drop in takings over the Christmas period.

However, she said it had the potential to fare better under new ownership.

She said: “If I’d only had the one business I could have achieved much more but I wasn’t giving it my full attention. Having a driven owner-operator on board will make a big difference.”
