Mother and baby shop finds berth after five-year search

A MOTHER and baby shop has opened in Henley town centre.

JoJo Maman Bébé, in Market Place, was officially opened by Mayor Julian Brookes on Friday together with company founder and managing director Laura Tenison.

The shop occupies the former CC premises. It stocks baby and children’s clothes, a maternity collection plus nursery products, gifts and toys. Mrs Tenison said: “It has taken about five years to find the right site in Henley and we are delighted to be here.

“What we want to be is the independent mother and baby specialist in the high street.

“I started with a sewing machine 24 years ago and we have grown year on year. Our store managers want to be part of the community and want to know their customers by name, seeing them right through from pregnancy to pre-school. It’s fantastic to be part of a thriving, small town community. This is where we feel comfortable as we don’t like out-of-town shopping centres. We believe in helping to maintain vibrant local economies.”

Councillor Brookes said: “ I’m very happy to welcome new shops and this is another excellent retail outlet with unique products to offer.”

Henley now has just a handful of empty retail units following a number of recent openings.

The Mayor said: “Of course we would like to have 100 per cent occupancy with a waiting list but the reality is there’s always going to be something empty. We have to do everything we can to encourage new businesses.”

CC, formerly Country Casuals, was part of the collapsed menswear chain Austin Reed and closed in June.
