Author opens pop-up Christmas card shop for 35 charities

AUTHOR Amanda Jennings launched the annual Cards for Good Causes festive fund-raiser.

Mrs Jennings, from Binfield Heath, joined volunteers on Saturday to open the pop-up shop at the Christ Church Centre in Henley. Cards for Good Causes offers cards from 35 national and local charities, including Cancer Research UK, the NSPCC, the Alzheimer’s Society, RNLI, Helen & Douglas House and the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Mrs Jennings said: “It’s wonderful to be able to support charities. This is a very impressive one that seems to do an awful lot of good work and raise a lot of funds in a very short space of time for a wonderful variety of charities.”

Jeremy Lune, chief executive of the charity, said: “Cards for Good Causes has shops all over the country and we sell a variety of Christmas cards supporting more than 200 charities in total. The people of Henley are fantastic. Last year they raised £32,000. There’s a real loyalty and our customers come back year after year to support us.”

The shop also sells traditional advent calendars and candles, wrapping paper, gift tags, napkins and stocking fillers. It will be open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, until December 19.
