THE Henley College has appointed a new principal.
Satwant Deol, who was previously managing director for education and skills at Highbury College in Portsmouth, will start work on November 28.
She has had a number of roles at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College, including vice-principal for curriculum and quality and director of planning and innovation. She was also vice-principal for curriculum and quality at Stratford-upon-Avon College.
Deputy principal Simon Cuthbert, who has been running the college with two assistant principals on an interim basis since Jayne Davis’s departure in March, will return to his regular duties.
Mrs Davis, who became the college’s first permanent female principal when she took over from Tom Espley in December 2014, stepped down following a “change in her family circumstances.”
Mr Cuthbert, who has been at the college for 25 years, said: “The staff responded very well following Mrs Davis’s departure and in September, following an Ofsted inspection, we were able to keep our ‘good’ rating.
“Everyone pulled together and it has been a very positive experience. Having been here for such a long time, it was easy for me to just step up and I was very well-supported by colleagues who filled several other roles.
“I shall be meeting my successor at a conference in Birmingham in the next few days and that will be an excellent opportunity for us to catch up and discuss the handover in more detail.
“As well as being a very nice person, she is really experienced in the post-16 education sector.”
