Heroic theme for Henley Youth Festival

Henley Youth Festival organisers
HENLEY Youth Festival has unveiled its programme for 2014.

Now in its 21st year, the festival will take place between March 3 and 16 and will have theme of “Heroes”.

It includes 48 events at primary and secondary schools in the Henley area and a number of other venues.

There will be performing arts showcases, sports and arts workshops and competitions for art, writing, film and photography.

Artists, drama groups and sports coaches will be giving demonstrations in schools.

Festival co-chairwoman Lucie Henwood said: “Many aspects of the festival have a fresh look this year.

“Through events in school, older children will experience Shakespeare’s The Tempest through the vibrant Young Shakespeare Company and we hope younger children will be captivated by the Finger & Thumb Shadow Theatre.

“Original art workshops, including Fire the Inventor and a cartoonist, will be delivered primarily within schools with something for each key stage. The hotly contested Stonor Run for primary schools is still there but this year there will also be a new Stonor Run event for secondary school teams.”

Out of school, children can sign up for workshops in hockey, cricket, judo, tae kwon do, fencing and disco dancing.

Entries for the junior and senior arts competitions will be exhibited at Henley Youth Centre in Deanfield Avenue from March 14 to 16. Prizes will be awarded at 3pm on the final day.
