YEARS ago, I featured a tongue-in-cheek sign on a tree that read “look behind you” and this one seems to be in similar vein.

If you walk along one of the many footpaths in Lambridge Woods in the direction of what is known as Fairies Hole you may notice this old sign, saying: “No footpath. Young trees”.

Of course, the “young” tree on which the sign was fixed is now mature.

These woods provide a fine walk in any season. In fact, they were recommended as such back in 1866 in E Kinch’s fourth edition of The Guide To Henley-on-Thames And Its Vicinity, which said this was a “favourite walk in the summer season”.
