Hidden Henley

TAKE a walk down Aston Lane in Remenham and you may find yourself thinking that something you pass isn’t quite right.

Down the hill in the direction of the Flower Pot Hotel and the public slipway where the Aston Ferry used to run, you will pass through the brick and flint abutments of what was once a bridge.

They once supported the beams of the bridge for carriages and goods going to and from Culham Court, which is nearby.

By the way, at the riverside take a glance across to the castellated boathouse on the opposite bank at Hambleden Place. I published a photograph of it here last year covered in creeping vegetation. Now that has been cleared and this wonderful folly can be seen in its full glory.
