THIS eye-catching figure of a man adorns the gate post of a house in Wargrave.
The wood carving looks like it has been repeatedly stained to protect it from the weather.
This area used to be known as Carlisle’s Corner and there were nurseries of that name on either side of the road that passes the property.
It is now a quiet backwater after the main road was diverted and straightened due to the number of drivers ending up in the fields.
Some readers may remember the AA telephone box that used to be located near here. What a shame it’s not still around.
