NOW summer is finally here, you may see this curiosity while on a country walk or river trip to Medmenham.

It is next to the public launching strip and at the end of a cul-de-sac called Ferry Lane.

This was a popular riverside tavern called the Ferry Hotel at Medmenham Abbey and known as “the snuggest inn on the river” until at least the late 19th century.

I believe there is no sign of this building left but there is this memorial to the old chain ferry, which operated until the end of the Second World War.
