Hidden Henley

WITH the advent of the mobile phone, the number of public call boxes has dwindled.

WITH the advent of the mobile phone, the number of public call boxes has dwindled.

However, some of the old red kiosks have found new uses, such as the one in Sonning Common which, as the Henley Standard reported last week, is being turned into a flower bed.

Here is another one set into the wall of the post office and general store in Hambleden and it still has a telephone inside.

It’s not only unusual but is a reminder of those days before we were all beholden to text messages, bluetooth, G4 and the rest of it.
