THIS is the point where the footpath from Wargrave towards Henley drops off into the Thames.
It is not far from Marsh Lock and to the left is Ferry Eyot, where the Bolney Ferry used to take passengers from the Berkshire side of the river across to Shiplake and Henley on the Oxfordshire side.
There used to be many houseboats on the Berkshire bank and wealthy Londoners used to bring their staff with them on summer holidays here. Others were allowed to make gardens alongside.
Over time, some were permitted to build houses on these riparian plots and others reputedly escaped notice until it was too late.
