Hidden Henley

READERS of our Boxing Day edition may remember that I featured the stone marking the finish line of the 1948 Olympic regatta on the Berkshire bank of the Thames in Henley.

So while I was walking downstream alongside the royal regatta course again, I thought that I was seeing double after all the Christmas celebrations when I spotted another marker a few yards away. It turns out this marks the finish line of the Olympic regatta in 1908.

Incidentally, had the London 2012 regatta been held on the Henley reach instead of Dorney Lake, we would have become the first place to host three Olympics.
