THIS was the beer cellar hatch for what was an old Grey’s Brewery pub called The Swan in Greys Hill, Henley, which opened in the early 19th century.

According to Hostelries of Henley by Ann Cottingham, the pub was there before the primary school almost opposite (now Trinity Trainer Pool) and even the church.

In fact, Harvest festivals were held at the pub as recently as the late Fifties. The Swan closed in 1962 and became a private house.
