Hidden Henley

THIS timber weather-boarded building opposite New Road in Lower Shiplake was once the Lashbrook Chapel.

THIS timber weather-boarded building opposite New Road in Lower Shiplake was once the Lashbrook Chapel.

Now a private property, it can still be glimpsed from the road without intruding on the owners.

It was built in the late 19th century, possibly as a store for a nearby paper mill.

It was later used as a scout hut, then a classroom for Bible lessons and more recently as the chapel following the installation of a harmonium keyboard. Old photos show it with a cross over the front door.

Do any readers remember attending services there?
