“MIND the gap” is a commonplace warning on the London Underground with announcements over the loudspeakers and the words painted on platforms.

The gap is caused by the Tube lines curving slightly so that when a train arrives at a station it doesn’t quite fit snugly against the platform.

Similar warnings are in use across the world but Hurley riverside is probably not the first place you would think of to see one. Just metres from the Thames Path in the village are some boat moorings.

The Environment Agency, which is responsible for them, has taken great care to ensure people getting on and off boats here take care. There are non-slip walkways and heavy duty guard rails all around and, of course, this sign.
