THE road near where this photograph was taken is a dangerous spot, so I urge readers to take care when driving there.
There is a small parking area almost opposite Spring Lane in Sonning Eye, near Playhatch. Take the public footpath from here towards Binfield Heath and you will see the remains of a large chalk pit with its imposing cliffs, similar to those used for quarrying chalk in nearby Dunsden Way.
Another curious sight is that of the sad-looking old road before it was straightened to improve safety. The Tarmac is being steadily broken up by encroaching shrubs and trees as Mother Nature gradually reclaims the land.
In the past drivers could see across to the chalk pit and to the footpaths leading over the hills to both Binfield Heath and Emmer Green.
Now, with the heavy traffic volumes, full concentration is required as you approach the narrower part of the road.
