THE Woodclyffe Hostel in nearby Wargrave is a Grade II listed building that is well worth a look.

The expression is not what would be called politically correct nowadays but it was used in the early part of the last century as a Working Men’s Club.

Located in Church Street just around the corner from the similarly named Woodclyffe Hall, it’s now used for local social purposes with meetings and a library.

The two signs are unusual: the embossed and ornamental swinging sign hanging at the front and the finely cut recessed name cut to a high standard into the brickwork.
