Hidden Henley

I WONDER how many people walking along the Thames Path in Sonning have seen this memorial

I WONDER how many people walking along the Thames Path in Sonning have seen this memorial gateway?

It features an ornamental iron gate embellished with crossed rowing blades.

The gate marks an entrance to Reading Blue Coat School’s rowing centre and is a memorial to a master called Denys Amos, who drowned accidentally in January 1953.

On one side of the gateway is a plaque with a poignant dedication to him.
