WITH the Queen being 90 yesterday, I thought I would show you these gates incorporating Her Majesty’s initials.

People walk past the gates every day as they are in a popular spot near to the river but rarely notice them.

They are just off the towpath on the way to Hambleden at the point where Remenham church is a few metres back from the river and outside the parish hall.

The accompanying plaque is weather-worn but the inscription can just about be read as: “These gates have been erected by the parishioners of Remenham to commemorate the silver jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
