Searchable histories

RESIDENTS of older houses in Henley can now discover who lived there centuries ago.

An online searchable database has been launched with about 35,000 census records from 1841 to 1901, together with another one containing old probate documents including about 400 wills from the 18th century.

The websites have been designed to help family and social historians but can be accessed by anybody. The probate website includes a form allowing the entry of a surname and finds all wills with testator matching that name.

The addresses are www.henleycensus.info and www.henleyprobate.org.uk
