Amber and blues stung by breakaway strike

Amber and blues stung by breakaway strike

HENLEY LADIES 1sts suffered a closely fought defeat at home to Hampstead and Westminster Ladies 2nds on Saturday.

The first half was tough after Hampstead and Westminster, full of confidence, pressed hard and took their chances well to take a 2-0 lead.

Henley responded well to going behind and kept a tight defensive press to maintain the score until half-time.

In the second half Henley were a completely different team. Taking Hampstead and Westminster by surprise captain and player-of-the-match Georgie Metcalfe set the tempo winning a short corner. This led to Henley’s first goal through an unstoppable straight strike by Kat Green firing into the bottom left corner.

Against the run of play, Hampstead and Westminster then went on to score their third goal. This did not dampen Henley’s drive to keep pushing forward and soon after the Jubilee Park side scored their second goal which was a well worked team effort ending with Emma Buckham-Hedges slotting the ball into the back of the net.

With time running out and everything to play for Henley pushed for the equaliser but despite several short corner chances and a penalty flick, the amber and blues were unable to find the back of the net.
