Fight for third spot

HENLEY faced local rivals Marlow in a fight for third place in Division 1.

The hosts took an early lead though a deflection from open play by Sarah Drummond.

Marlow fought back and were rewarded with several short corners but they were no match for the Henley defence who closed down play and quickly distributed the ball out wide for counter attacks up the wings.

Links of play through the centre of the pitch by Emma England and Rachel Herbert to forwards Taminah Brown and Drummond gave Henley an opportunity for another goal from a short corner. After a couple of attempts, the ball was finally netted by Karen Walker who slapped the ball across the D to the far post.

After the break, great saves by Emily Channon kept Marlow at bay while an effective press brought another short corner to Henley and their third goal. The keeper did well to save after the ball was crossed into the D but was powerless to stop Sophy Rogers’ shot on the rebound.

The three points keep Henley in the hunt for promotion.
